The one reason you’re not seeing your hair goals (and how to fix it)
Listen to the podcast or read the article below:
How long would you say you’ve been at it? Like really putting in effort to see the goals you want with your hair?
Well, good. You should be able to answer this next question with ease.
Tell me something your hair absolutely cannot stand (you can comment below btw)? This should almost be a kick reflex and you shouldn’t have to think too long about it. If you took a little while to think of a product/ingredient/etc., it’s okay, but let’s raise a little red flag for now.
I’ll let you in on a fun fact: When you know more things your hair doesn’t like, it gets you closer to knowing what she does.
But just knowing that is not even the bigger issue here. I have conversations with different naturals and one question I’ve been asking lately is why do they think are they’re struggling? Quite a few of them start off with some form of variation like, “Well I’ve been using the same products…” and I’m actually going to stop right there. Because that’s the first cause for a pause (ha).
See the key is to understand what your hair needs from you. If you’ve been using the same products (or generally the same stuff) for a long time and haven’t seen progress, maybe your hair is yearning for something else. Natural hair can be like a newborn baby because she knows what she needs, but just can’t communicate it to you and can’t get to it without you. And you have to read the signals to be in sync with her needs (just like babies right!?).
Maybe the next thing you’re wondering is HOW to pay attention to the signals. Again, think back to the baby analogy. If you’re an attentive parent, you’ll get to know your child very quickly and understand how she looks when she’s happy, sad, mad etc. You want to keep her happy, so you remember all the “silly” things you do to make her happy and keep doing that. When she’s sad or mad, she gets her favorite toy (that, unless you’re lucky, wasn’t an easy find) and when she’s happy, you get to show her off as a proud mama who’s got it all together.
Now read that paragraph again and replace the baby references with natural hair. That’s how you pay attention and finally see progress.
To put it all together, the main reason you haven’t seen your hair goals is because you haven’t taken the time to listen to what she needs from you. It’s something so simple to do, but requires the most attention from you. If done properly, you’ll reach your hair goals and so much more!
